Superoxide Dismutase
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is an enzyme that repairs cells and reduces the damage done to them by superoxide, the most common free radical in the body. SOD is found in both the dermis and the epidermis, and is key to the production of healthy fibroblasts (skin-building cells).

Studies have shown that SOD acts as both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in the body, neutralizing the free radicals that can lead to wrinkles and precancerous cell changes. Researchers are currently studying the potential of superoxide dismutase as an anti-aging treatment, since it is now known that SOD levels drop while free radical levels increase as we age.

In our life, our body is exposed to various toxins almost all the time. We are against the onslaught of toxins in food, drinking water, even the air we breathe. Heavy metal toxins like mercury, lead and cadmium are removed and the accumulation of plaque in arteries and blood vessels and reduces the passage for blood flow (the medical term such as atherosclerosis). This leads to all sorts of problems and even heart attacks and may eventually require surgery to bypass blocked arteries.

Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) the process is the process by which chemicals bond with minerals and toxic metals and remove them from the body. Word chelation is derived from the word "Chel" Greek and means "claw."

Scientists develop new method for detecting functional sites on proteins

A team led by scientists from The Scripps Research Institute has developed a powerful new method for detecting functional sites on proteins. The technique may have broad applications in basic research and drug development.

Described in an advance, online publication of the British journal Nature on November 17, 2010, the method enables scientists to take a sample of cells, locate the sites on their proteins that have a certain kind of biochemical reactivity, and measure the degree of that reactivity.

Makan adalah salah satu kebutuhan dasar manusia. Namun, kadang kala tanpa kita sadari, makanan pun dapat meracuni kita. Salah satunya mungkin makanan yang kita makan adalah sumber dari timbal (Pb). Timbal adalah salah satu logam berat yang bersifat neurotoksin. Dari sebuah penelitian diperoleh bahwa adanya timbal sebesar 7,5 μg/dL akan menyebabkan penurunan IQ yang cukup berarti.

Benalu Kedondong Pacu Imunitas Pengidap Kanker

Benalu atau kemladeyan lebih dikenal oleh masyarakat sebagai tumbuhan perusak tanaman perkebunan. Tanaman yang hidup pada tumbuhan berkayu ini dapat mematikan inang yang ditumpanginya.
Sebagai tumbuhan parasit, benalu hidup dengan mengambil nutrisi dasar yang dimiliki oleh inang untuk selanjutnya diolah menjadi makanan dan energi guna kepentingan tumbuh benalu tersebut. Karena benalu mengambil nutrisi dasar dari inang, maka sebagian kandungan senyawa yang terdapat di dalam benalu menyerupai inang tersebut.

Di balik daya perusak benalu, ternyata terdapat berbagai manfaat yang luar biasa. Di dalam dunia pengobatan, khususnya kanker, tumbuhan yang sebagian besar penyebarannya dibantu oleh burung ini sudah tidak asing lagi.
